Enjoy Cycling on the Cooley Peninsula

The Cooley Peninsula is a gift for cycling. Starting off in Medieval Carlingford village you can set off in many directions, try the new Carlingford Greenway to Omeath, cycle down to Greenore and catch the ferry on the hour every hour to Greencastle. Its 95% flat and a round trip to Omeath takes around 2 hours, its approx 14km total. Our 3 hour hire time is perfect so you can stop and have a coffee and break in Omeath. Ask our local staff about trying the less known but equally stunning Balagan loop. Stop off in Kilwirra, the ruins of the church where the Knights Templar set up upon arrival in the peninsula. Stop in the beautiful Lily Finnegans for a refreshments, voted #1 pub in Louth. Upgrade to our amazing Ebikes and take on the Cooley hills effortlessly! Electric Bikes are life changing, still the exercise but a little help for those hills and distances.

Our Bike Hire guys are local and always willing to explain the best routes etc, the Greenway or Balagan loop are perfect for self guide tours but feel free to email re are tour activities which we run throughout the year depending on tour guide availability

Add Childrens Bikes, Child Seats, Childrens Trailers & Doggie Trailers after choosing adult bikes below. All bikes have the option of free Pannier side bags or handlebar bags. Helmet and map included with all.

Adult/Teen Hybrid Bike

Large Selection of 2021/2 bikes to choose from. Unisex/step through or classic mens! All Alloy frame light weight – Hybrid Bike. Shimano Quick shift, 21/9/7 Speed Shimano gears. €10 for a quick 2 hour spin on the greenway or €15 for 3 hours is our most popular package. Start times are just a guide, feel free to arrive later or early – it just means shorter rental time if we are really busy. The Greenway is currently a 14km/8.7 mile round trip. The Greenway is flat and suitable for all levels of fitness. Kids bikes/Trailers/Seats and doggie stuff can be added on next stage of booking!

Electric Bikes

We have the North Easts largest selection of Electric Bikes including; Cube, Gepida, Falcon and Ezego. These pedal assist bikes make cycling accessible for all fitness levels and ages.

These bikes glide along with little pedal effort. A lovely way to enjoy the hills of Cooley or perfect for a leisurely trip on the Greenway!

We have a 5 different size ebikes. Suitable for persons from size 5′ up to 6’4

Ebike Hire is €30 for 4 hours or €49 for full day.

Choose your style of bike; hybrid or Electric and we will then adjust saddle height to make cycling comfortable and easy. We give you a map, helmet, pannier/handlebar bags (optional) and send you on your merry way!

3 hour hire €15 – 10am 1pm and 4pm slots but feel free to turn up at anytime, we can normally cater for walk ins unless extremely busy during big weekends.

Looking a day to remember? Our E-bike and beach picnic package is here! This 4 hour self guide electric bike tour takes in the highlights of the eastern half of the peninsula. The E-bikes make the 28km round journey effortless.

Midpoint refreshments served and towards the end of trip you will stop for 45 mins to enjoy a beach cooked picnic with gorgeous seafood grilled in front of you and served with local breads, treats and cold vino!

FAQ

Do we need to make a reservation in advance?

We recommend booking in advance as during busy days we can have your bikes ready for you without delay. Our office is sometimes unmanned as we do deliveries etc.

What is included in the rental price?

Bike hire includes bikes fitted to your size, helmet, hi-vis and road side assistance.

How long is the Greenway?

Currently it is around 8km to Omeath village where the greenway currently ends but late 2021/ early ’22 it will join up with the Newry side which will make it 18km from Carlingford to Newry.

From Newry it is possible to cycle the next 29km to Portadown using the towpath and quiet country lanes!
